When it comes to caring for our dog's, trust and comfort are key. Whether you are hiring a pet sitter, boarding your pet, or introducing a new caregiver, a pet meet and greet session can make all the difference. This initial meeting helps ensure your pet’s well-being and your peace of mind. In this blog, I will explore why these sessions are essential, what to expect, and how to maximise their benefits.
The Importance of a Pet Meet and Greet Session
A pet meet and greet session is a chance for your pet and FPC to get to know each other in a relaxed environment. This meeting helps reduce anxiety for both parties and builds a foundation of trust. Pets are sensitive to new people and situations, so a gradual introduction can help prevent stress and behavioural issues. The Meet & Greet can be stressful for your dogs due to the environment being so different from any other, but we try, here at FPC, to make it as comfortable as possible.
During the session, we can observe your pet’s temperament, energy levels, and any special needs. This information allows us to tailor our care approach. For example, a shy dog may need a slower introduction, while a high-energy dog might require more playtime.
Additionally, the meet and greet provides an opportunity to ask questions and discuss your pet’s routine, diet, and medical history. This ensures that we are fully prepared and confident in delivering the best care.

What Happens During a Pet Meet and Greet?
During a typical meet and greet, you will be asked to attend here at the FPC daycare facility to meet your pet. This session usually lasts 1 hour and includes several key activities:
Introduction: Family Pet Care will calmly approach your pet, allowing them to sniff and get comfortable & also to have free range of the indoor area to sniff around.
Observation: FPC watches how your pet reacts to new people, environment and the dogs that are introduced one in, one out (not to overwhelm). All dogs have to enjoy daycare, and this is the most essential part of the meet and greet, observing your dog's behaviour, I will see if they are...
1) A confident dog that enjoys the company of other dogs who are playful and understand dog body language. This is typically a dog that will thrive in daycare. 2) Not so confident in themselves, but are showing signs of wanting to play and be involved with the other dogs. This is a dog that we will give a trial day and see how they get on.
3) Not confident at all and showing signs of stress, and staying with the owner. This is a dog that wouldn't enjoy daycare, and we wouldn't take it on.
Discussion: You share essential details about your pet’s habits, likes, dislikes, and health. FPC will discuss the day-to-day routine at daycare and what is provided for your dog throughout the day.
Meet & Greet Interaction: FPC may engage in play or basic commands to assess your pet’s behaviour.
Environment Check: This is for you to see where your dog will be attending and to see what the daycare facility has to offer your dog.
This process helps both you and the FPC feel confident that your pet will be well cared for. It also gives your pet a chance to become familiar with the FPC staff's presence before any actual care begins.

What do you need to look out for at any Daycare Facility?
Choosing the right daycare is crucial. During the meet-and-greet, what should you look out for?
Lack of Experience: If the daycare seems unsure about handling your pet’s breed or specific needs, this could be a problem.
Poor Communication: A daycare that does not listen carefully or answer your questions clearly may not be reliable.
Rushed Behaviour: If the daycare is in a hurry or distracted, they might not give your pet the attention required.
Ignoring Safety: Watch for any unsafe practices, such as leaving gates open or not locking doors when needed.
Discomfort with Your Pet: If your pet shows signs of fear or stress around the daycare, or if the daycare appears uncomfortable, reconsider your choice.
Trust your instincts during the meet and greet. A good daycare will be patient, attentive, and genuinely interested in your pet’s welfare.

How to Prepare for a Successful Pet Meet and Greet
Preparation is key to making the meet and greet productive and stress-free. Here are some tips to help you get ready:
Gather Important Information: Have your pet’s medical records, feeding schedule, and emergency contacts ready.
Be Honest About Your Pet’s Behaviour: Share any quirks or challenges openly with the daycare.
Set Clear Expectations: Discuss your dog's needs, medication administration, and any special instructions.
Observe Your Pet’s Reactions: Watch how your pet responds to the daycare and environment during the session.
By preparing well, you help the daycare provide personalised care and build a positive relationship with your pet.
Benefits Beyond the Initial Meeting
A pet meet and greet session is not just a one-time event. It sets the stage for ongoing communication and trust. Here are some long-term benefits:
Reduced Separation Anxiety: Pets feel more secure knowing their caregiver is familiar.
Better Behaviour Management: Daycares that understand your pet’s personality can handle situations calmly.
Improved Health Monitoring: Regular updates and observations help catch any health issues early.
Peace of Mind: You can relax knowing your dog is in capable hands.
If you are looking for a professional and caring service, consider scheduling a pet meet and greet with Family Pet Care. This simple step can make all the difference in your pet’s happiness and safety.
